About usInternational Relief and Development (IRD), is a charitable, non-profit, non-governmental organization, focusing its operations in regions of the world that present social, political and technical challenges. IRD specializes in facilitating and supporting assistance that is tailored specifically to those most in need. In July, 2007 the project “Renovation of the Belgrade Youth Center by the American People” was awarded to IRD. The reconstruction of the center is being made possible by the City of Belgrade and the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). On December 20, 2006, the Embassy announced the "Million Dollar Project" voting campaign which asked the citizens of the city of Belgrade to vote during a four-week period on how one million dollars of U.S. assistance should be used in Belgrade. Citizens were given two options -- the purchase of modern ambulances or the substantial renovation of the youth and cultural center "Dom Omladine Belgrade". Nearly 70,000 votes were cast in less than one month! 31,820 supported the purchase of the ambulances, while 35,703 voted for the renovation of Dom Omladine. The United States Embassy has committed to provide funds towards the project in the amount of $1 million. IRD is responsible for managing the project covering the following reconstruction activities:
