Opening of the Reconstructed Green Market in Zavlaka |
$307.000 Investment for Improvement of Conditions for Cattle Breeding in Krupanj
International Relief and Development (IRD) is pleased to inform you that the reconstructed cattle market in Krupanj was opened on Thursday, June 28th. This important economic project is funded by the American People, through the United States Agency for International Development and CRDA-E (Community Revitalization through Democratic Action – Economy) program, implemented in Western Serbia by IRD.
Over 70% of Krupanj population is engaged in agriculture as a main economic activity. This region is well known of quality meat and dairy products, due to extraordinary natural conditions for cattle breeding. Though local breeders have established excellent cooperation with near by slauther houses, major problem in cattle trade is lack of adequate cattle market. The existing market in Zavlaka, also used by neighbouring municipalities: Osecina, Sabac and Loznica didn’t meet basic hygienic and sanitary standards; lack of adequate fence enabled unlicenced trade, while traders didn’t have water and toalets at their disposal. Through the local economic development planning, Krupanj LED team identified this project as a priority for economic growth of this region. IRD, in cooperation with Krupanj municipality, and Zavlaka local community reconstructed cattle market, respecting the highest health and sanitary standards. Breeders now, at their disposal, have modern space with appropriate fence and more cattle boxes, with all electro, sanitary and hygienic conditions, and four new employees have new offices.
This project is valued at $307.000. American People contributed $156.000, while remaining $151.000 was provided by Krupanj municipality and Zavlaka local community.
Mr. Slavenko Djokic, IRD Serbia Chief of Party and Budimir Stefanovic, Krupanj Mayor adressed the audience.
